About Kathleen Beedles
“For over twenty-seven years I’ve worked with writers in television drama. Writer’s Intention grew out of what I learned from those years in the writers’ room and on my own personal journey as a creative.”
Kathleen Beedles is an award-winning television writer-producer, story consultant and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist (Hypno-CBT).
She began her career as a storyline writer on Coronation Street and went on to work across many of the UK’s best-known dramas, including Emmerdale, where she served as Series Producer.
Over twenty-seven years in the industry, she has worked with hundreds of writers across thousands of episodes of television in the UK and abroad, helping shape stories, develop scripts, and support writers at every stage of their careers.
Through that experience, Kathleen saw that the biggest barriers writers face aren’t talent or craft, but confidence, pressure, and the personal challenges of creative work. You can read more about how Writer’s Intention developed here.
Writer’s Intention brings together her editorial experience and Hypno-CBT training to help writers develop both their work and themselves, because great writing comes from more than just craft.
About Writer’s Intention
Why work with me?
Writer’s Intention brings tools from therapeutic inquiry into the creative process.
Rather than looking only at the mechanics of a script, we can explore the deeper questions behind the work: what drives your characters, what emotional truth sits at the centre of the story, and what you as the writer are trying to say.
For many writers this becomes a powerful way of unlocking ideas, deepening character and clarifying their unique voice.
Traditional script consultancy often focuses on analysing and fixing the script itself. My approach also explores the writer’s relationship to the story, helping uncover the deeper intentions that shape the work, and we look at the lived experience of being a writer and what might be holding you back.
The aim is not only to strengthen the project you bring to the session, but to develop you as a writer in ways that carry forward into your future work.
Writer’s Intention works with writers at different stages, from those developing early ideas to experienced writers navigating the pressures of a creative career.
Whether you’re looking to strengthen a script, find your voice, move through a creative block or prepare for key industry moments, sessions are tailored to your needs.
Writers often tell me the process helps them understand not just their script, but the kind of writer they want to become.
About Hypno-CBT
Here are the answers to some of the questions I’m most often asked. If your question isn’t covered, please feel free to get in touch.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, focused state of attention. It’s similar to those moments when you are absorbed in a book or a film and your focus narrows. You remain aware and in control throughout.
Will I be in a trance or lose control?
No. You are always aware of what is happening, and you cannot be made to do anything against your will. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process. You are always in control.
Is hypnosis the same as meditation?
They share similarities, such as focused attention and relaxation. The difference is intent. Meditation is generally about awareness and calming the mind. Hypnosis is more directed and used to work towards a specific change.
What is Hypno-CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy combines hypnosis with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It looks at how thoughts, feelings and behaviours connect and works to shift unhelpful patterns.
What happens in a session?
We start by understanding what you want to work on. Sessions combine discussion, practical tools and, where appropriate, hypnosis. You remain fully involved throughout.
Can this help with writer’s block?
For some writers it can. Creative blocks often involve patterns such as perfectionism, self-doubt or pressure. This approach can help you recognise and shift those patterns.
Are online sessions effective?
Yes. For most people, they are just as effective as in person.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you want to work on. Some people come for a small number of focused sessions; others work together over a longer period.
Is it confidential?
Yes, with the usual professional exceptions around safety – this will be discussed in our call and screening.
Is it suitable for everyone?
It can be helpful for many people, but not in every situation. Our screening process will outline this and ensure it is safe for you. If it is not the right approach, we would discuss options.
Can this be used in an emergency?
No. This is not a crisis service. If you need immediate support, please contact your GP or emergency services.
